Mathematics
Our mathematics curriculum is guided by the Maths — No Problem! scheme, a high-quality mastery approach that sets ambitious goals for all learners. This programme provides a carefully structured sequence of lessons, enabling pupils to build on prior knowledge and develop new skills and understanding progressively. Our skilled teachers adapt lessons to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring concepts are secure before moving on and providing opportunities to deepen mathematical thinking. The scheme fully aligns with the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum.
Alongside our daily mathematics lessons, we place a strong emphasis on developing fluency in calculation. Pupils have regular opportunities to practise and apply efficient calculation strategies as part of everyday classroom routines, helping them to build confidence, accuracy and flexibility with number. Daily micro-teaching of times tables also takes place across the school, helping pupils to develop automatic recall and confidence.
In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, we enhance our mathematics curriculum through the Mastering Number programme, developed by the NCETM. This evidence-informed programme strengthens pupils' understanding of number, develops secure number sense and fluency, and embeds the essential foundations needed for future mathematical learning.
To support learning at home, we use Times Tables Rock Stars, an engaging online programme that encourages pupils to practise and improve their multiplication fluency outside the classroom.
