Year 4

Year Four

Autumn

In Year 4, our first term is spent learning about volcanoes, the earth's core and mountains in geography, with a chance to create our own volcano! In History, we went back in time to learn about the Ancient Greeks and the difference in lives between Athens and Sparta.  In Science, we spend our time learning about states of matter and electricity, with lots of exciting experiments including melting chocolate! In English, we cover lots of exciting topics. Poetry, writing about the war and Remembrance Day and even creating a setting description of the Christmas Carol. This term we also had an exciting visit from a local band, The Lathums who read us a classic Roald Dahl story.

Spring

In spring, we have the opportunity to visit Curdeon Valley to support our learning in Geography. We will also have the opportunity for a trip based around robots with STEM for our science learning. In Spring we focus on soul music by Bill Withers – Lean on Me in our music unit. The children always love our music units, their favourite being ABBA. In spring, Year 4 also have their multiplication check which tests our times table skills that we have spent so long practicing!

Summer

Lastly, for our busiest term, we have lots going on! The children have the opportunity to visit Tatton Park based on their Anglo-Saxon unit of work in history. This is a good way for the children to consolidate their learning and experiencing this for themselves. As well as this, in Religious Education we learn about Jewish Synagogues. We have a very special visit planned to visit the Allerton Synagogue. In geography, we will learn about what it is like to live in Australia.
