Year 4

Year Four

Throughout Year 4, we have a wonderful year of learning and fostering our curiosities. In our Autumn term, Year 4 spend lots of their time learning about a variety of different things.

Firstly, in our History and Geography, following our Opening Worlds scheme the children will learn all about  Ancient Egypt, Mountains, Cradles of Civilisation and Rivers.

In our Religious Education sessions, we cover the topics of Why Jesus is the light of the World and why the Church is our chosen place of worship, immersing ourselves into other faiths such as Judaism and Islam.

To support our creative side, we make sling shot cars in DT.

In our Science sessions we look at sound and how this is made and also animals including humans where the children get to re-create the digestive system and make their own waste!

In English the children will immerse themselves into a book, then analyse key features of the genres they will be writing about finally they will complete a final piece of fabulous writing about what they have learnt.

Over the spring, the children create their own torch in DT, learn about settlements in History,  photo editing in Computing and create their own electricity in Science!

For our final term of Summer, we immerse ourselves into learning all about living things and their habitats in science, where and how people pray in Religious Education, designing structures in DT, playing the guitar in Music and perfecting our Spanish speaking skills! We delve into agriculture in our Geography lessons and put all of our fantastic English knowledge from across the year into writing our spectacular final write-to-shine piece, where the children demonstrate how amazing they truly are.

Across the year to support our learning in Mathematics, we follow the Maths No Problem! Scheme, this enables the children to practise multiple methods for the same question, ensuring all individual learning styles are met. This scheme is also very practical, ensuring the children are using concrete resources daily to consolidate their learning and understanding.
