Reception
Welcome to Reception
Reception is all about bridging the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage One. We work tirelessly with your children to ensure they have all the skills and knowledge they need to have a bedrock of learning to flourish as they progress throughout school.
Children in Reception are taught the foundations of reading. It is our job, in harmony with parents, to guarantee the children can read. Reading is the key to the future. Alongside reading we teach the children to write and the key skills they need in maths.
Children in Reception learn best through play, we have lots of lovely continuous provision activities linked to the children’s learning. These ACTIVITIES change weekly and link to not only our topic but your child’s interests. Please feel free to inform us of any interests your child has.
Children in Reception are expected to meet the Early Learning Goals, these are statutory requirements outlined in the EYFS documentation that was published in 2021. These goals are:
We also follow the Birth to 5 Matters supporting guidance.
Children in Reception love to learn and we love to provide exciting, engaging and challenging areas of learning for them, some of these are
- Space
- Desert Islands
- Christmas Around the World
- Growth and Change
As a Church Of England School we also have God at the centre of our learning. The children participate in daily collective worship as well as learning in RE lessons.
Reception also talk part in Music, PE, and PSED lessons each week.
