Our music curriculum reflects the diversity of our school and the wider world, exposing pupils to a broad range of musical styles, cultures, traditions and composers. Pupils develop their musical knowledge and understanding through the key areas of singing, listening, composing and performing, while developing their understanding of important musical concepts such as pulse, rhythm, pitch, dynamics, tempo and notation.

Music is taught weekly across all year groups. In EYFS, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3, pupils receive a dedicated 45-minute Charanga lesson each week. In Years 4, 5 and 6, pupils receive a weekly 45-minute lesson delivered by specialist teachers from Wigan Music Service. Their progressive programme builds pupils' technical, constructive and expressive musical knowledge and skills over time, in line with the expectations of the National Curriculum.

Our partnership with Wigan Music Service provides pupils with access to specialist musical expertise and enriching opportunities to develop their talents. Through regular singing, listening, composing and performing, pupils develop confidence, creativity and a sense of achievement, enabling music to play an important part in their experience of school.
